Course Number : TPR4
Directional, Horizontal & Multilateral Drilling
Objectives:

Successful development of reservoirs can be accomplished with directional, Horizontal and multilateral wellbores. While this may be true of all reservoirs, it is specially true of marginal and previously unproductive reservoirs. Good well planning and drilling techniques significantly reduce costs and are essential in this environment.

Define the critical skills necessary to successfully drill horizontal and multilateral wells. Learn the design criteria and techniques necessary to drill this type well. Previous methods are no longer adequate. Take advantage of this new generation of drilling information. Considerable emphasis is placed on understanding the principles involved in drilling highly deviated wellbores. In addition to the obvious fundamentals, many special topics including underbalanced drilling, coiled tubing drilling, rock behavior, important in today's operations, are reviewed.

Course outlines:

Introduction to directional , horizontal and multilateral drilling

Rock behavior in highly deviated wells

Wellbore paths

Directional surveying

Friction in directional wells

Drillstrings for directional and horizontal drilling

Casing and liner design for directional and horizontal wells

Special topics: hole cleaning and lubricity , underbalanced drilling, coiled tubing drilling, multilateral drilling, short radius drilling, MWE,LWD, geosteering, well control and more
Who should attend?

Drilling personnel and service company personnel involved in the planning and drilling of directional, horizontal and multilateral wells, as well as others who may wish to acquire a more thorough and up-to-date understanding of this continually evolving technology
